Hello there,
bit of a noob here but just bought a punisher and was really chuffed to bits with it. ran a tank through it on idle then took it out for a light spin, it flipped, although i was stood quite near it it didn't seem to bad. however about a couple of minutes later it wouldn't pull away. on close inspection a dog bone was missing and the rear diff cup had bust.
i thought that was all until i got it home both rear wheels are cracked (badly) and the lower wishbones have large chunks out of them as if the diff cups have met them.
first off is this normal? or am i in for a hundred quid every time it rolls? having looked at some of the vids that are about i thought the ftx was a bit tougher than this.
i have attached a couple of pics, any help would be gratefully recieved, it is out of the box stock at the mo, i was wondering if antiroll bars or rear suspension spacers would stop the cups hitting the wish bones?
cheers

Hiya,
That sucks!!
I have seen a Couple of split FTX drive cups, but no more than any other scale of model, same with the rims.
Must have been a faulty cup.

i have broken 8 wheels track racing im going to hpi/proline wheels now
the drive cups are knowen to be soft contact your nutech dealer for the new hardened cups they should supply them for free unless your car allready has them then you will have to pay for them

I snapped a cup..figured it was caused by the arm flexing enough to let the bone climb out which then snapped it...only done one in 35 tanks

I've broke one cup in a tumble, but the impact didn't look bad enough to do such damage..must be like Mooman says, caught it just right and the bone popping out and ripped the cup with it.
Where are you based buddy?

cheers for all the replies chaps, i will get on to modelsport and see if i can get the hardened cups, might take this opportunity to replace the wheels with baja style wheels so if the tyre splits of the rim breaks again i can just replace the one that is broke and not the whole wheel. good idea?
i am based down in surrey mud anyone else about down here?
am itching to get back out with it, well frustrating.

drill out the hole in the plastic slider a bit bigger on the bellcrank...the wire from the carb gets bound up in it with the stock hole...I also straightened the end of the wire and put a spring on the end to help pull it back

Hiya,
Best bet is just to order what yo want through the webshop, it takes paypal or credit cards :o)
Is that ok to do it that way?

I have noticed some carves in the dog bones of my TB and I think mynameismud is right. the flex of the arms makes it possible that the dogbone actually works as a lever to split the drive cups.
I am looking for a solution to limit the travel of the suspension arms so the dog-bones will never reach the outer most position as were they split the cups...
may bee the shocks can be adjusted so they act as a stop to the travel the suspension arms can make?
any suggestions?

use the setscrews in the arms to adjust downtravel. they are called droop screws. the setscrews hit the chassis. I like to set them up to stop downtravel just before the shock extends fully as it saves from ripping the shock ends off.
get the vehicle on a block and check. it's also good to limit travel if the drivetrain has any binding like at the axles or dif outdrives as this can snap them if you get on throttle in the air when jumping. so test the full extension spinning the wheels and limit until the bind is gone.
Hi Pipeous,
I do not mean the droop, but the other side of things(shocks al the way compressed).
I mean that i limit the travel not outgoing (with the set screws you describe) but ingoing, when the shock and spring are all the way compressed.
I noticed that if the shocks are mounted on the higher wholes in the shock tower they are not limiting the travel but the dogbones in the cups will....
this is what causes damage when doing some serious bashing i believe...

then some fuel tube, thick stuff, on the shock shafts externally will help. it will compress still some so you'll have to play with length and type a bit. it also adds a bit of dampening at the end. I mean between the shock body and shock end (it's early morning for me and not sure if I am making sense or not). not many options for stopping up travel.
I am a mellow type driver myself. I like to roll the jumps close to the ground so I can get on throttle sooner. big air looks cool but tends to break stuff and rc's get bent out of shape too easy. ask the guys at our last meet ;) hehe. I may not turn the fastest laps but will turn the same time lap after lap and make my time up when the ballistic missles get bent out of shape... and it tends to break less stuff letting me play longer.
dam I want to do some new mods to my TB2 but have to go work for a few hours... I work too much, it's taking away from my rc time... I am going to cut my c hubs up today and make some new bolts from exhaust bolts to put in my knuckles. I am tired of the bushing part in the top so the upper arm ball end is going to be directly bolted to the knuckle when I am done. I am going to look at the full compression to check for binding while I am at it. I'll do some videos to show what I am doing and how I've done it, in case anyone wants to use my changes. I am just following something Sickboy had done allready so not my innovation.

Hey pipeous know what you mean about work, been working like a dog.
Finally nearly sorted my motor will post up some pics soon, haven't disappeared from the forum so thanks for everyones input.
Hugo, i see what your saying about the travel thing, i have just put 40 wt oil in the shocks and they are infinately more responsive and softer than stock and i am wondering if this will go some way to resolving that problem? dont know, but i started this thread be cause i took one light tumble and it cost me 100 quid.
will post up of a vid of my car very very soon.
ps i also bought anti roll bars and oh my what a difference, where ever you are reading this, shut down the computer and rush out and buy them. You can thank me after

not really been an issue...very few reports of cups splitting and the original punishers were delivered before a few upgrade parts came out. I don't think anyone has split the harder cups
