Hey guys, been a member for a little while. Just now got around to picking up a TB2. Many thanks to Scott@ZerogravityRC, youre the man! He set me up with the options I was looking for and was more than willing to work with me. I really appreciate it! He is hands down one of the best guys I have dealt with in this industry.
I got a basic RTR, with the wide body, MMT wide arm conversion, sway bars and a Jet Pro. Its sitting a little low in the pics because we werent 100% certain I would need the MMT shock ends and Scott didnt want me to buy something I wouldnt need. Hows that for service? I hope you guys like it, once I get my killswitch and battery and the shock ends in I will break her in.
Also dont mind the camber/toe settings, I know they are out of whack. I dont want to set the suspension up until I got the rest of the things I need :)

Actually a buddy ( Slhawkins) of mine cut it out and painted it. Im more of an engine guy, and hes more of the body man. Its solid black, and the window netting decals came with the RTR car.

Ya, I wish I lived that close! Unfortunately for me and a few others in my area there nothing here. Not even a respectable 1/8 track within a 2 hr drive :( Luckily theres all kinds of 4 wheeler hills to climb and horse rings to setup makeshift tracks on.

Thanks Matt its always nice when I get some company here, its a drive but if you have something fun to do it always makes it worth it. Plus you get to spend 4 hours in a car with Kevin :excited: haha woo hoo!!! You guys are always welcome here just wish I had a track to run on at my warehouse that's something I will have to work on a test track would be awesome.
Temps are suppose to go from extremely hot and sticky back to tolerable starting Sunday. I didn't think I had anything planned this weekend then I got a text this morning for a friend his bachelor party is Sat at 5 lol. Yeah I think Ill be taking my motorcycle so I can drink a few sodas and bail or l will never make it to Sheboygan on Sunday. I really have to test these FLM front CVD on my Kalee so I can have them put into production and I want to come and run my Nutech with you guys so no drinking for me I am running RC this weekend:punk:

what parts are needed for the wide conversion?
Obeast44
08-15-2010, 03:19 PM
I bought the MMT Lower arms, Shock ends, dogbones, steering turnbuckles, and Front/rear upper turnbuckles. I saved a few bucks by just buying the turnbuckles over the complete upper arms. I figured since its new it would be too bad reusing the plastic rod ends. Basically everything in this thread I replaced , plus the shock ends:http://www.nutechracingforum.com/vb/showthread.php?1114-FS-New-TB2-A-arms-turnbuckles-and-Dogbones

Just ran mine for the first time in the yard :excited: Man once the motor loosens up some and I slap a tune on it....oh boy its gonna be a fast machine. The Jet-pro pipe has some brutal top end and the low end is adequate but its not a rear Dom thats for sure. The only thing I wasnt too impressed with was the turning radius. The stock steering servo does an adequate job, but couple that with a slight bind in the front suspension at full steering lock and a servo saver that kept backing out its easy to see why. I will locktite the servo saver and the binding should alleviate itself over the course of a few tanks. All in all for the $669 pice tag of the RTR from Scott@ZerogravityRC, I am thoroughly impressed!
The wide suspension allowed me to turn at the tightest radius I could manage( tis still turns better than a Baja and my old Ramps) with the aforementioned issues at full throttle. There wasnt even a hint of unstability, the only time I had a tumble was an end over on a small jump. It came through unscathed.
I wont even begin to talk about the shocks, they are the biggest smoothest shocks I have ever seen on an RC.
Hndaman1 here are some of the part numbers and quantity youll need. This is the exact route I went.
059504 MMT Shock Rod end set you will need 2 of these
059524 MMT Steering Turnbuckles
059525 MMT Rear Upper Turnbuckles
059526 MMT Front Upper Turnbuckles
059514 MMT Rear Lower Suspension Arms
059515 MMT Dogbones you will need 2 of these for a total of 4 dogbones
059517 MMT Front Lower Suspension Arms
That should be all you need.

Ran another tank and a half through mine today and ran into a few issues. I lost a bolt that holds the gear cover and motor mount and another had come loose. I locktited them before running but they managed to back out. I guess that allowed my gear mesh to open up considerably, luckily I noticed that before I did any damage to the gears. Once I replace and retighten them down I will see how the gear mesh is. Hopefully all will be well. Im pretty sure this movement in the drivetrain has allowed some motor movement and its starting to blow the stock paper gasket out. I guess the extra weight of the Jet-pro sped up that process. Thats not a big deal considering I will replace it with a copper one. Good news is the binding in the steering is all but eliminated and she is rock solid stable through corners. So a bolt, some more locktite, and a head gasket is the list of things I managed to break today. Not too bad.

Sounds like some minor issues. :damn:
At least your out running it.
Obeast44
08-20-2010, 04:06 AM
Ya, nothing too major upon visual inspection. Once I tear into it this weekend I will know more. The main casualty was the plastic gear cover. hehe
I never expect those black head gaskets to last, matter of fact I changed 3 in the last month or so for my friends. One more wont be a problem. :)

Got her rebuilt Friday night, fixed the bolts with a little red locktite and replaced the head gasket with a copper one.
I went to a little friendly 1 on 1 race with a friend of mine that runs a Baja. We were doing a best of 3 event, a mild road course, an oval and a straight line drag all for a free breakfast and bragging rights. The baja was running a DS/sikk 26cc, rear dom and Hostile's all around. Im running the stock 26cc with Jet-pro. On the road course I was forced to start 2 laps down because I had 4wd, everything else was heads up. We started off with the road course and due to being 2 laps down and the extremely slick and dusty conditions I only managed to make up at most was a lap and a half. Nutech 0 Baja 1. Next was the drag race, and honestly I felt like the Baja had that one in the bag. Wrong! The same loose and dusty conditions that essentially cost me the road course, gave me the drag race win( twice)! Nutech 1 Baja 1. About this time my T/B servo was acting up and I didnt have ANY brakes because of it. Luckily the Baja lost an E-clip that holds the spur on. After him running to the parts store a 1/2mile away and getting another to replace it we were set to finish with the Oval. I was worried my servo would crap out on me and cost me the breakfast and some bragging rights. Luckily it held enough for me to put the Baja a lap down and then the replacement E-clip on the Baja gave out. I cruised to victory, a free breakfast and some SERIOUS bragging rights for a few weeks. Nutech 2 Baja 1. To Slhawkins (the Baja guy) man those FREE biscuits and gravy are gonna be AWESOME!
I will probably replace the stock T/B servo with a 5755 and while I am at it replace the steering with another 5755. Aside from that little issue, everything went perfect!

I swapped the gears around today because I noticed I had way to much topend when I was racing last weekend. Unfortunately before I got 5 minutes into my run I snapped the shaft off of the clutchbell. Doh! I see alot of guys recommend the alloy mount, alloy clutchbell holder and the steel vented clutchbell. Am I correct in assuming the steel vented clutchbell is alot stronger than the stock one? I dont want to have the same issue again.
Good news though, my stock T/B servo is fine. I was just having a little binding and it was fixed by what Mooman recommended in another thread :)

Oww yes I to have heard a few of the stock ones doing this, one of the guys I sold one to locally had it happen, upgraded to the vented clutch bell and hasn't had a issue yet. I am still on my stock one with no issues so all I can assume is it was a batch of them that might be weaker then the rest .

I went to LargescaleRC's Fun Run on Sept 25th and had a blast! I got some serious track time with the TB2 and the only casualties were a stock T/B servo ( no surprise there :D ), slightly bent the Jetpro stinger after catching some HUGE ( well huge for me! ) air and I rounded a wheel hex. I got a solid 2 tanks in, in between helping a fellow RRF member get his Futaba 4pk equipped Rampage lined out. Note to self, the 4pk is nice but hella complicated! haha
I had several people stop and ask about the Nutech after seeing her run on the track, most couldnt believe it just had the stock 26 in it. Even Troy or Scott ( Sorry! I cant tell you guys apart, you are twins afterall! ) commented on how well it was doing. It was my first time on the new layout with an essentially stock TB2, albeit I had the wide arms, and I could definitely hold my own against some VERY expensive rigs. Its was a very good day thats for sure! Im hoping they got some video of her in action. Unfortunately my camera wouldnt hold a charge :(

They were impressed, after seeing it run several people stopped by to check it out at my pit area. Most people didnt know what it was and were very curious. I explained what it was, what I thought of the performance/durability , the price and where to get one. There were quite a few "wows" "damns" and double takes. I think it definitely made an impression, and its gonna make another one on Oct 16th :D

Bear in mind a few things. Its my fourth time really driving the car, first time on the trackwith the TB2 and only my 2nd time ever on an official track. Im rocking a stock 26cc that is a tad rich to be safe, I was 10hrs round trip away from any spare engine parts :D

Did a complete teardown of the TB2 while I had the engine out. I put 10k in the front/rear diffs and 30k in the center, and a few other little things.I installed the 36mm headkit and will get her broken in for the next fun run. Hopefully I can continue to make improvements in my driving and eventually give those seasoned track guys a serious run for their $$$$. Ive got a friend of mine trying to get a hold of a Jet-pro TB2 widebody side pipe for me. I dont mind the performance of the rear jetpro but its just to exposed for my tastes.

Had at blast at largescaleRCs fun run today! Thanks for having me up Troy, Scott and Bob, great times as always.
I got some laps in with the new 36mm top end, and the new Jetpro side pipe. Let's just say it's got plenty of power now thanks to the pipe. I only had a few issues today, all of which were pretty easy fixes. I broke the servo save after it got locked with dust and had a bad landing. I thought my day was done but thanks to RonE we modded a Rampage saver to work to get me up and running. I went back out and ran the dogsnot out of it until I lost a dog bone after my rear upper arm popped off the ball. I slapped a washer on it after popping the ball back on and was ready to go. Or so I thought, turns out I picked up a screw from someone and it got into my flywheel. Needless to say I lucked out because if The dog bone hadn't popped out, I would've kept running. You can guess what would've happened with no cooling fins on a flywheel. I had to buy a new one because I left my spares at home, luckily they are cheap. I got that fixed and went back out for a final run and ended up breaking the vented clutch bell and losing a side pod in the process. All in all it wasn't too bad of a day, now if I could just drive a little better Nutech can get some wins over here in the states.

With three victorys this year, the TBII can (in the right hands) beat the mighty MCD's. =)

Its about an hour and a half northwest of Indy so its a little closer than ya thought. Its located in a little town called Monon, Indiana.
I look forward to meeting the WI crew :)
A friend of mine is working on video of the event, hopefully in a few days he can get it done. When he posts it, I will do the same here.
My driving is steadily improving, the new engine/pipe combo was messing with my timing a bit so I was over jumping a little. Gobs more power is something I can learn to live with though :D
@Scott: I got a list of parts that I will be ordering from you in about a week to replace a few things on my TB2. Once I build up my RC budget a little :)

Here is the video thanks to Grizzlecamudgen, Thanks again Neil! There is plenty of more footage from that day, that he will be posting this weekend. Please notice the difference from the Rear Jet-pro to the new side Jet-pro in one of the other videos I posted. Dont laugh at my driving, I was down on steering a little, and the new pipe/engine combo was throwing me off a bit. hahah :D

Hey Obeast, did you have drag brake setup? It just seemed when you let off throttle over a jump it nosed in a bit like there was some drag brake setup.

I actually didnt have ANY brakes whatsoever in the videos. Thats why I was driving in so deep into the corners. The main problem with it nosing over is the rear shocks. I need to make some collars to increase the preload and maybe go to a little thicker shock oil. The rear of the chassis is bottoming out on the face of the jumps and causing it to nose over in the air. That and I am still learning how to jump. Its also only my 2nd day at the track with the TB2.
