View Full Version : Going through throttle servo's like water on the punisher?

Hi Guys,
Newbie Punisher owner here.... I keep burning out my throttle servo's. Have gone through 2 stock servo's and another 20KG servo. Have just installed a Hitec 7955TG in the hopes that things are sorted.
I have never gotten more than 20 or 30 minutes out of any of my servo's. They keep burning out. Ive set and reset the EPA's. But the servo's keep dying!
This last servo, had it out for about 25 minutes and then noticed that the car wasnt stopping when taking my finger off the throttle trigger. So adjusted the brake EPA to compensate to make it stop. And again this happened and again adjust down the brake EPA to make it stop when idle. On the third time, the servo froze and had to kill the radio gear so that the killer bee killed the engine. :damn:
What gives?

First, :welcome: to the forum.
It's pretty common for the stock servos to crap out. The Hitech servo should last for you.

I always recommend using a Rhino 4 or a Hitec 5755 for throttle/brake duties. They can handle being stalled (when braking) much better than there regular sized brothers.
They may be a little more cash but they are just about fit and forget :)

Are there any upgrades to the linkages that I could do?

thank god for the killer bee, hitec should sort your problems out

I know that mynameismud did something to his, I'm sure it's posted in the forum here.

biggest problem I've found seems to be the brakes after they're worn a bit don't bite well regardless of servo power...i burned out a 5745 trying to get my brakes to work...i'd prefer to see metal pads and fibre discs, the brakes on my 38lb pig can be locked at full speed using just a 5645

So took the Punisher out with the new Hitech Throttle servo in, and the throttle keeps sticking??? When turning the radio gear on and the reciever, the servo horn seems to be in the right place, but after a few accelerations, the car continues to run. Luckily, using the killer bee kills the car, but then when switching the radio gear on again, the throttle servo horn is at about 40%
I further proved this in that when she is running on auto pilot like this, if I press the throttle again, it revs and then goes back to the correct neutral position.
Any ideas? Can my linkages be sticking at all? :mad as hell:

linkages could be sticking, what i always do with a new servo is turn it on without the horn on top and let it center, then put the horn on in the neutral position. this helps with the centering of the servo, so you do not need to trim it.
get a wire bender and make a few linkages, i doubt its the fault of the hitec servo,
hope you get it sorted..

the wire from the carb gets stuck in the plastic bit in the bell crank that it slides in...drill out the hole a bit bigger and it helps, also straighten the end of the wire and put a spring on the end to help pull it back

I can see the picture in my head, but can't find that thread to save my life =(
Think I've first came across the linkages mod from Isle of Wight, and then Banners posted a pic of his recently.
I like the adding the spring to this wire idea (nice one Julian).

Cheers guys, will give these a go tonight/tomorrow and see how I get on.
Ive had a look at the Isleofwhightbashers Punisher rebuild and the threaded rods for linkage look like a good upgrade.
Will update in a couple of days...

Isle of Wight also bend the front brake linkage into a S shape, so it clears the centre diff top plate and joins onto the servo arm better.
Let us know how you get on buddy.

my stock servo crapped out within the first hr also:boxing:, ditching all the stock radio and servos:yahoo::yahoo:

get the hitec high voltage version
as even the rhinos will burn out if your battery pack goes over 6volt and has too much current
I killed 4 rhinos in the past problem was solved with a variable voltage regulator BEC.

Throttle linkage stuck on me first time out. I had to rebend a bit and added a spring as well

Pipeous has a pre-production model, there are a few changes that were made. 1 of them being the T/B servo, thats a largescale size servo. Our production models can run the same large T/B servo with a little modification. I will be running 2-5755s when my servos go poof.

I run 2 5745's myself. the stock servos in the pre prod were absolute garbage. the newer ls servos are better

Never mind the wishbones... it now looks like Ive cream crackered the Clutch bell mount!!
WTF?? This is turning into an expensive sport

Sometimes it seems like a bottomless hole for money, but as you get the small issues sorted it does get better. :boxing:

Hi ipkiss by the sounds of it you are ready to throw the towel in ,stick with mucker stick with it .
A few tips for you
1ST check your transmitter set is set up right epg and so on travel of the servos, rate, things like that
2nd to solve your throttle problem all you need is a few springs out of a pen, this will stop the sticking.
3rd Check you lower arms set screw that governs you ride height that it is touching the chassis when you lift it from of the ground, if it is not touching the chassis then you also run the chance of destroying your shock pistons ( bottom out ), this happens when the lower arms what to travel more than they can pulling on the shock piston at the of the cylinder, when jumping and then going into a roll over and so on ,all you need to do is make sure the set screw in the lower arms is screwed in enough that it protrudes out on top of the lower arm about 1mm 0r 2mm depending on what ride height you want of course but make sure it touches the chassis.
And last check and double check all your screws are tight and use a good lock-tight
Hope that helps you out

newtothenu the brake link works a treat, works just like the nutech set up but one solid link not to Kean on to many parts to stop the car it should be simple and a easy fix and springs are a must.
Thanks mynameismud i do love it when a plan comes together LOL

Good to see problems being sorted easily by users, not everything works out the box, a knowledgeable bunch of users really help. Thanks guys, will be checking through my Punisher when i get it back.
