ALL NEW NUTECH GT5-R 6th august 2009 ........ thursday.
this morning at 11:00am the postman bought me my new nutech GT5-R. and man was i excited...the box was huge )
MAKE-nutech GT5-R
ENGINE- CY 23CC
BODY-ford mustang gt
SERVOS-hiteks 5745 mg x2 [supplied by myself]
RADIO-2.4GHZ FUTABA clone.
PIPE- tuned chrome/stainless pipe
BRAKES-cable front & layshaft rear.
BIREF DESCRIPTION-complete alloyed up onroad car to compitition level including c&c cut a-arms front &rear, alloy uprights 4corners,alloy diff/mounts,complete alloybulkhead and bodymounts, alloy adjustable shocks x 4,silicone alloy diff.and nice unique alloy touches like anti roll bar mounts.and body mounts ) car came nicely rapped up in large box with instructions for radio and body decals.also supplied was a futaba clone 2.4ghz radio/reciever which looks awesome.clear shell also included in package.
FIRST IMPRESSION- well out of the box i was shocked as this is a high spec level car up there with the best compitition models,to say i work fast is an understatment as i got car at 11am and i have shell painted and radio gear installed for 3pm
it looks awesome, everything is alloyed up,the a-arms im very impressed with as they look really nice and chunky.but overall car feels light weight.ialso like the chrome plated wheels a breath of fresh air for a change from white/black.
DISLIKES SO FAR- so far just one the servo horns are week looking well they were slipping in my hitek servos anyway so i used hitek alloy servo horns also.but these servo horns that were supplied with car would prob fit other servo aplications.i like the servo mounts actually strong looking.
FURTHER COMMENTS- im very intrested in checking out the complete package as car has a high ride hight so makes it suitable for most areas both on/off track, but im very intrested in seeing how these chinese tyres do.
here is a video of first start up.just take a look at the quality of this machine.....im well impressed.

GT5-R UPDATES AND BREAK IN PROCDURE....
so got this beast out this evening and ran it for 2 tanks its a fine machine,i had to adjust ride height and camber/castor also i ran it in for one tank which you will see in the video.
videos need to be watched in sequence as first was to bring car to area, second running it in [small vids] and another short vid of CAR BROKE in.
TRANSPORTER- fg elcon/beetle & tralier
CAR- nutech gt5-r
WEATHER- great
CAMERA- nicola
ENGINE- cy 23cc
AIM FOR THIS EVENING- engine break in
TYRES- annsman/chrome wheels
COMMENTS-
lads im in AWE this car is very very fast,i dont know exactly what nutech have done to this model but its like A RACE PORTED motor........very fast as you can see in the video.handling is very good considering i was running on 50/% halfway tyres.although this was only a test run/break in run i wasnt able to test tyres enough.
fast car, that cy 23cc s matching if not faster than zenoah 23cc,now i never thought i would hear myself saying that as im not a huge cy fan but there is something up cause its very fast.maybe its an upgraded one....?....
i didnt check gear sizes yet but i think they are enlarged. hence more oooomph....
FAULTS-
so far i only ran two tanks but my two rear shocks have already thrown in the towel so to speak, they were leaking oil badly and bouncy for the finish [see pics below]
also exhaust coupling flange broke and almost deafened me in the process lol....now one thing i spotted and it is a major problem so far,i see the alloy spur gear wearing at a rapid pace...i think the rotational mass is too high with that big alloy spur...[too heavy] most manufactures use steel clutch/plastic spur, plastic spur being lighter and having a lesser rotational mass results in less wear, now i compliment nutech with this new twin alloy gear design but i cant see it working for them.now another thing is these tyres are only a half way tyre,it is just madness to release a good onroad model with these things......very little grip.....useable for experienced drivers but disastrous for newbies.....these tyres got to go.
FURTHER COMMETNS-
so far i have only run two tanks and it handles good, nice and solid with the weight, but these above parts need to be addressd urgently or its a no go area. im a little disappointed that i cant run it again until i replace the above mentioned parts.
untill i replace parts i await running it.

CANT DO ANY MORE WITH CAR UNTIL I GET FOLLOWING PARTS
1/ spur gear
2/ tyres
3/ cable brakes for rear as epoxy discs are already wearing slightly.
4/ two rear shocks
5/ exhaust coupling flange.
i cant run car until i get these parts.. (

some news on gt5-r
ok i got some good news on car first off i repaired exhaust flange.
second the shocks were good all that was wrong was the bottom caps had worked themselves loose and leaked oil, actually these look like great shocks to me upon inspection they look very well built.
the gears i looked at them closer and they have some wear but its maybe beading in.but only time will tell how the spur holds up.we will see..
SO FOLKS GOOD TO GO..........apart from these TYRES.......AHHH lol
but i need a lot more running with this to give an overall opinion, i would like to see how the drive train holds up like the diff, drive gears etc etc....
also i would like to make more adjustments and see how it performs.

FIRST PROPER RUN WITH GT5-R after run in... saturday 08th august 09
COMMENTS
ok so i got out for some run time TOTALLY AS WAS OUT OF BOX including tyres it came with, had great fun.i done some repairs this evening to it like re-filled leaked shocks 2 rear ones and adjusted camber and ride height.fixed exhaust flange, this car is going like stink i really like it,TRUST me this is the best 1/5th scaled mustang i have ever seen,i had the front end adjusted high as to let body shell clear the ground and the front of the car was lifting on throttle, was a real buzz it was pure american mussle like torque lol....its like the real thing.and the handling i think is somewhat improved with the added weight of the alloy.
dislikes/faults
ok thats where my fun ended today,it was almost impossible to run with the tyres THE FOUR SHOCKS LEAKED and coverd all the car in oil.......[see pics] i almost crashed twice due to bouncy ride.....NUTECH THESE SHOCKS AND TYRES ARE RUBBISH......... i spend all my evening repairing shocks and i know shocks inside out....i used the best shock tools, and bamm they leaked yet again the two rear ones i fixed after two tanks leaked for second time along with THE TWO FRONT ones today!!!! the shocks are just leaking everywhere.....and i had every thing very tight and well put back together......tyres are bald to slicks after two tanks.
now another thing that happened today was the layshaft brake square, after one tank the square came loose and it was spinning on shaft upon applying brake,i had no brake,i re-tightned it but them silly grub screws dont take much torque so it came loose again....this is why i dont like any kind of layshaft brake. but when they stay working they are excellent,it was the shocks that was the biggest dissapointment though today..
to be fair now those shocks need changing...
anyway should i really be repairing shocks after one tank?
TODAYS SCENARiO
look i love the car that cy goes like stink LADS MY OPINIONS ON CY HAVE CHANGED THEY ARE AWESOME....the spur gear is perfect after all and working fine.it sure is built tough and has some great touches....but shocks need to be adressed along with these crap tyres that are bald after two tanks......
i need lots more testing with this car to check it completely,i wonder what it will be like after a gallon.maybe great with good shocks and elligi/pmt tyres.....
i want lots more testing to see how that diff holds up,along with rest of car............time will tell all.
FUTURE PLANS FOR THIS
next time i will be out running this it will have to have differnt/new shocks and pmt cronos....then we will test this flat out!!
car is nice but shocks need to be looked in to.along with tyres.
for now i cant still give a definate opinion on it.

somepictures of shocks leaking for second time.....along with front shocks also leaking.
i really want to see how this car drives with good shocks and tyres, also that layshaft brake square keeps coming loose.

nutech as of now this car cannot be driven anymore until parts are replaced.
i would suggest a revised shock and some good tyres.
and for that layshaft brake SQUARE FOR DISCS that keeps slipping a set of rear cables....
let me know how i proceed.......:)

NUTECH GT5-R
SUBJECT-
radio/failsafe
ok for all of you who are not familiar with nutechs latest radio gear,it comes out of the box with a 2.4ghz futaba clone radio.i must say it is a very nice piece of equipment in fairness.
it has nice throttle/trim adjustments, built in failsafe,2.4ghz frequency, nice blue light iluminates inside the transmittor wheel on a brake caliper.......cool huh.
response times are noticeably slower than a futaba or spectrum, but its easy get used to it and works great.....
FAIL SAFE-
the built in fail safe is in the receiver and i must say when i got car it was set to full throttle lol and i didnt know how to set it as it doesnt come in instructions and it doesnt have buttons on receiver to set it.what you do is,on the receiver there is a small cut out in the casing, all you do is switch everything on,inside that cut out on the reciever casing needs to be touched now slightly with a small flat philips screwdriver, and it will automaticly start blinking, set transmittor to desired failsafe position and touch circuit board in reciever again and DONE....just double check it works and if not repeat this procedure again.

AWESOME GT5-R RUN ON FG ELLIGI TYRES..... monday.... 10th august 2009....
[3rd tank...].
COMMENTS-
this car is awesome i love it....the alloy blings so much its dazzling.this is a great car running on good tyres..its my first proper run with good grip.these fg elligi tyres have changed this car dramaticaly...i lowered ride hight and it runs very good,im very impressed now. THE DIFF IS SUPER SMOOTH little slip with great handling....
GOOD NEWS-
i repaired all 4 shocks with new oil and they are now perfect and they did not leak in this run.they worked very well,so i can only say that the model i got the shocks were just loose out of the box.....with the right tools its not a bad idea to check them out first and make sure they are nice and tight...they look to be very well built.
BAD NEWS-
at the end of this video you will hear the gears grating against each other as they finally packed it in after a 2half tanks...like i previously forecasted on this thread i knew they wouldnt last.....two gears completely melted....two alloy gears cant physically work, too much resistance...[see pics below] so i upgraded to plastic spur 40t and steel clutch pinion like my evo fg set up.
another thing i think that needs to be done is a vent in to that very well sealed shell, the engines dont perform at there best when they dont have enough air flow through,i may modify that also now soon.
I REALLY THINK THIS CAR NEEDS LOTS OF TESTING before any opinion could be given but the way it performed here in this video was AWESOME!!

Dan are you running the gear cover on the car?? if so biff it over your shoulder this would have contributited to the demize of the alloy gears as they would over heat!
As with all on road cars getting cool air in and hot air out is always required, cut your two front side windows out and also the rear window leaving about 20mm at the top of the rear window!
Cheers Bryan

bryan how are you.
would you believe i was thinking of that cover yesterday and would it over heat things BUT... i have an old carson and it doesnt cause any problems on it with a plastic spur and steel pinion.
i may just take it off anyway.

another awesome outing with this GT5-R 11th tuesday.....
TESTING IN PROGRESS........
COMMENTS-
very enjoyable evening now trouble free, the diff is excellent in this model,i got no trouble at all this evening.my new spur and clutch pinion are doing great.
i like this marked track that i use in this video,it allows for lots of straight top end runs........and man can this thing move.
FAULTS-
none this evening.........
i did notice some chassis flex but its as much as would be in any comp onroad model, its very acceptable.

Hi Dan, yes of course plastic on steel will not heat as much as 2 alloy gears together!

i ran this machine this evening now and i really love it,its going very well.no leaks from shocks anymore. diff is excellent seems to be holding up very good, this video here the car is running new pmt crono eclipses. handling and running sweet....
its fast if a little heavier than my fg.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rB8EViXUoL4&feature=channel
this car is awesome.its very good now, shocks are good after adjustment and no more leaks, car is very strong for a small price. excellent value in my books.
i love it...
it would be crazy not to put this awesome car in to production...
I LOVE IT...
it has a lovely weight ballance and great handling now that everything is set up properly.

the car is excellent, its some of the finist alloy i have ever seen.....
simply all i had to do was change spur & clutch pinions, spur a 40tooth fg &clutch a 23tooth.......and refill and adjust shocks.......THATS ALL!!
i love the car,it should be put in to production i think.......
the chassis is also very good as my comp fg model has he same flex more or less, its normal.
i am building a complete new offroad project and nutech have been very kind to help me with some of the parts for it
lol {thats a funny smiley}
