I dont like RX-batterys what are always empty, so here is my solution:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2506/3971105219_804f25c4c1_b.jpg
For size comparison, there is AA-size battery.

These are 10 000mah cells, lifepo4.

I did put thick gorilla tape for protection. This do not look so good, but it works.
Battery pack is 3s1p configuration. So there is a voltage regulator.
I also did make balancing wires for each cell, so i can charge & balance cells.

Batterys did add weight about total of 1kg, but that is not issue for me, because i don't race.

(better pics when i found my digicam =)

i dont think thats a good i dear becouse to meny wires and trhe ones in the rear are likely to get wiped off and you will end up with a runaway car with lots of damage
i use a 4600 hump pack in mine and can go all day and not need to recharge ...

jesi
10-18-2009, 07:30 PM
yeah, that might be issue. I have L-profile aluminium to cover rear cells.
Also, reason for oversize batteries is in my driving lights project...
Anyway, if there is some real issue, i can trow these away.

Okay, i did get these mega-cells out of TB2 :)
Ordered 4600mah hump-pack.

Now i just need time to (test)drive, total runtime is less than 10 minutes :)
(no major problems  )

edit:
Stock throttle/brake servo leaked out working-smoke, so i put better servo.
I have failsafe for low voltage and no signal, also i did add spring what pulls throttle leaver to idle, if there is some total blackout in battery/wires.

ah, couple my friends do have that, it is very nice!

I did not like stock fuel filter, what is in tank, so:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2619/4031570323_658eebac77_b.jpg
6mm bolt socket from my toolkit, end of fuel line goes thru that.
So, now fuel line is allways very near of tank bottom.

Must buy more fuel line, because it is not looking nice now =(

edit for last pic: just fixed that cable-tie what is pushing fuel line =)

Do you have more pictures of the filter element? Very nice. Even thaw they try to keep the tracks watered in he heat of the deep south it is hard. I run in VERY dusty conditions many times and when you get 5 to 10 vehicles running on a track it gets really bad. Some times so bad it is hard to see.

With the stock HPI filter did you have problems with it hitting the roll cage? Wonder if this would move it up enough to clear it and if the body would still go on.

jesi

oh, sorry. i did not read what you wrote :D

yeah, that is hpi baja stock air filter. As you can see from my pics, there is little fitting problem with roll cage, but not real issue if you use only that baja filter.
My mod for roll cage is just for make easy access to Pipercross filter.

Hmm, i think it will fit with that velosity stack.

These Pipercross extra filters (what i use to cover baja filter), they are very big and still it goes nicely under body.

46u
10-21-2009, 09:51 PM
I am going to get the Velocity Stack for my 5b SS as is it makes it MUCH easier getting the air filter on and off. When I do I will give it a try on the Thunderbolt II pro racer sometime. If it fits fine I will get a outerwear for it like I have on my 5b. But first if Nutech sends me one of there filters I will try it first.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2513/4043036636_125551a814.jpg

Because there is now option gear ratios, i did change gears.
In stock setup, bigger gear is in motor, now is smaller one.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2486/4042118566_f635af86ab_b.jpg

Did you mean body mods?

Here is little bit cold now ( +-0 celsius), so i cant say what real result is.
But IMHO, body is too "compact", if i look how air flow will cool motor.
(maybe it does mean anything in my use, but hot intake air is always taking power out of motor =)

I have the react also and swear by it...fastest radio there is, 4ch which is nice for dual steering and the kill switch (i don't like y harnesses as they don't allow seperate servo adjustments for perfect sync and i don't have servo programmer)

with the nutech I plan on dualling the brake servos and will be able to adjust bias fr to rr like i did on my ol' fg hydros.
for $270 I reckon the react is the best bang for the buck handset there is but that's my opinion of course...was running ds3's before but range was absolute cack..with the react i can drive so i can't see my car anymore and still doesn't lose signal.

I know nomadio had real poor service for a while cos they were bogged down making guidance systems for missiles in all of dub'yas war follies:( but now things are way better...i had an tx/rx glitch problem a few months back that I couldn't sort out and (think it's Scott or maybe kent...forget now) was helping me by instant email til the problem was resolved..he also said that nomadio have no intention of getting out of rc handsets...i believe he's an rc nut himself...ddm have stopped supplying rx's but Amain has a bunch of them cheap at $85 and only $5 to ship to Canada

I prefer the FG rx box...has oring too...but of course so does the revised nutech one now though don't have one yet.
the fan case and clutch protector are a good idea....I use mesh on the bottom of mine, just small enough to keep fin snapping rocks out but need to use some outerwear material for the clutch or super fine mesh ,like jesi has done, to keep the sand out my clutch, the laut 4 shoe has very little clearance with the bell and a bit of sand can get it engaging too early

12cent rock guard...i bent the bottom up so it clears the driveshaft without rubbing

My friend JariV did came to visit me, Jari has 10HP Hpi Baja.
We did have real :party time: , just bashed around.

Only damage was broken wing on baja, and some rocks fly in our head, but otherwise nice LOL

I think we drove 3-4 tanks, full of F U N !

Here is some short vid from my mega monster, no grip at all :(

Stock center diff:

Some clean up and putty in diff:

More putty in diff:

If i do remember right, one diff needs 3pcs of these small putty cans.
And if i wanna center diff to work normal, i just take putty out off diff and put silicone oil back.

roccos_van

...or you can buy a second center diff set, and swap them out depending on what you want to do...

thanks.

as a cheaper option for the diff locker you can use play dough or plasticine, both do exactly the same job and are real easy to get out like this stuff...you can get a pound of plasticine for same price as one can of the diff lock:dance:

jesi
01-18-2010, 06:25 PM
Yeah, i thinked this also.

But did not have time for testing, so i did get that one what works :)

this white putty looks like blue-tac. i have tried playdough and blue-tac as well other similar materials and the problem is that if you do not make sure it is packed as much as possible the diff will move a bit at some point and after that it will be worse than with oil.
the putty does not flow in the diff so if it is pushed in corners it will never go back between the gears. this special putty might be different though.

Tire is way too soft, for getting good performance out of ice screws, but i think these will be good than nothing.
I do make order for better tire, what is good with ice screws.

You will needthe HPI to |Nutech adapters,HPI rims, tires and HPI foams. and HPI beadlock rings.

Look what I did to my FG. Just some cheap plated 1/4" sheetmetal screws.

Yes, i do sell these tires what you paste :)
Just sold out :D

Yah, your solution is working and cheaper, but kold kutter does have bigger edge and harder material.
Btw, nice colored clutch in your FG :P

I forgot, i did use multi-material flexing clue to mount ice screws.

Well...

Just installed Spektrum DX3s radio&telemetry gear to car.
I used stock temp sensor, but i used eagletree sensor for RPM (gives some input, but drive test later) (stock sensor is optical, eagletree sensor is magnetic).

So now i can see from transmitter: car voltage, engine temp, car speed.

Also add Kill Switch with buzzer and led, and i replace both servos to 33kg.

Hi
looking good there, i was in to much of a hurry when i bought my dx3r, i should of waited till this one that you have was released but tough poo for me, its a lovely thing the voltmeter's and for the speed how accurate do you think it will be.
Why did you replace the servos then and which ones are you using now

Dont for get the test vid LOL

jesi
01-27-2010, 06:39 PM
Reason why i change servos:
Tested with two dx3s radios and with 3 servos, just put power on car and transmitter, servos do wibrate and heat up and dead after couple minutes......

Servos what i use now:
http://hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=8496
These are NOT direct fit for nutech cars!!!

Here is faking cold now, so just tested.

Too bad that this parking area did have lots of sand.

Must go better place in daylight some other time, kids did have lots of fun.
They used motorbike helmet, so no worries for flying rocks and flying off from sled.

Yes, couple times in curve, there was so big G-force that kids fly out from sled :)

I hope you have a good fail safe on the beast ,it wouldn't be nice if the beast drove off with the little one hanging on for there dear life
but it certainly looked like the kids were having lots of fun.

also the servo you use now what do you think of them i have recently acquired 2 of these for my fs 4wd and took the fs for a spin last weekend and yup the servo died on me ,
well took here home and checked the servo it still worked, but only in one direction so in my further inspection i noticed the red and black wires from the battery to the on off switch were a bit fried so im thinking it some how was drawing to much power from the battery why im still trying to work that one out :beat dead horse:
so now i have sent the servo back to the factory to see what they come up with

I have killer switch failsafe, it turns engine off, when: battery voltage is low, loose signal from transmitter or when i use third channel.
What i have been tested, i can trust that.

Today we have sled towing more.

After 1.5 tanks of full fun, then cops came on site...

They sayd that in law, it is same that i tow kids by 1:1 car or RC-car...
They also sayd that if i leave asap, they will not write ticket for me...

We was in that same parking lot, it is public area, but no traffic at all.

There was some family walking nearby, and they tow kids on sled.
I think they called cops, because cops sayd that they did get call from someone..

I understand that family ok, if you tow own kid on sled with walking, it is heavy and kid is saying that speed is too slow.
And then this family see how my kid have great fun on RC-power sled and this other kid get angry, because he did not have fun on sled.

Anyway, Finland is know from jealous people...
