View Full Version : Diff-locker?
Question for Nutech (and Clayton) really...
Are either of you planning on making any diff lockers? Literally a solid piece in place of a center (or F/R if desired) differential?
Here's Clayton's Baja piece for an idea what I mean...

Yes we are going to be working on a locker. Because of the unique spring loaded out drives however the locker will be a little more expensive than other ones for other models. Infact it is on the drawing board.
We are probably going back to our Locker company, "Monster Lockers" and get back into lockers for allot of trucks we use to make them for as well.

Any news ?:)
Maybe limited slip differential?
for Carson Gas Devil/Smartech Titan there is:

I think this is direct fit for TB2?
if not or Nutech can make it better, so idea might be good?

That is the FG locking diff, I think the std diff's in the TB2's are far superior to these diffs. But a proper LSD blocking diff would be good:D

I think the ball drive he used is from the FG vehicles.
Chris, how about Torsen differential (to center)?
It is very simple and works nice on 1:1 and 1:8 cars.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torsen
There is just six gears inside and it will balance torque bias in real time.
Where is better grip, it delivers power to that axle.
http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/jk/images/t1_wpl.jpg
There is no parts what need any adjusting or maintenance.

Why would you want to lock the centre diff would this not stress the drive train when landing of jumps etc?
Pipeous
01-14-2010, 01:41 PM
you are speaking the juice OJ ;) . Yes it is harder on the drivetrain especially on power landings. Some people like the direct feel, like most 10th scales are but you also lose brake bias.

Most 1/10th scale buggy even have a slipper clutch to help take the strain away from the diffs.
As for the torsen diff yes they can be a great tuning aid however when racing I would use one mainly in the front only. In my opinion the best tuning aid is the diff oil, and then experiment to find the best tuning options.
With diff oils I always like to stick to one make this way you learn the oils viscosity even if the bottles are marked as WT or CST at different temperatures when racing.
When bashing, center diff is making car so bore :beat dead horse:
In track center diff is must.

has anyone done anything else to make the diff tighter , i want it as tight as it can be but .. the thickest i could get was 500.0000 and the centre diff still feels loose .....
ive heard of adding blue tack , or emptying /cleaning the diff and refill with some ,pu adhesive ... we use tiger seal over here in the uk ... cheers :surprise:

Most drivers after running the losi active diff dumped them, reports on other sites say there team drivers don’t even use them.

01-20-2010, 12:20 PM
Been using them ever since I got them. The cornering is lots better. But you will need to change a bit on how you drive as you want to keep power on the diffs...
Again depending on what track you drive. With the different springs supplied you can tune them.
Losi Factory drivers that were here last month were certainly using them!
O.J.Racing
01-20-2010, 12:30 PM
Most drivers here tried them on grass and astro both high grip surfaces and didn’t like them, not sure what surface your racing on.
I like the Hobao spider diff they run 2 extra gears and allow you to use lighter oils over the standard diff.

Please add hole&screw cap to diff case, what allows check/remove/add oil without taking diff out from car!
Small hole is ok, this oil change can be done with syringe.

Hiya,
I have all the bearings, gears and shims in stock to be able to fit FG size diffs (which have needle bearings for the diff output cups) in the Nutech. in the front, centre or rear diff positions.
It's a real easy mod to do no chopping just a bit of patience and it can be sorted real easy.
At the moment I'm running a standard Nutech diff up front (with a nutech alloy diff case fitted), which has operated flawlessly since new, A Oddified (Harm) mag diff in the centre, this is an amazing diff to have in the centre and a smartech alloy diff in the rear (smartech uses spline drive, I'm not into those little drive pins in the rear diff. I've broke two and they are a pain to replace!!!) which is very smooth and again has worked flawlessly. I also run a CNC diff gearbox case at the rear. My drive train is bullet proof :punk: very happy with it at the mo.
If you really want to convert your car to diffs that have needle bearings for the diff outputs to run in. it can be done!!
If you want any info, get in touch :)
Nige.

The hdydros are great. All you need is a strong servo. I do have Hydros at the front and the back, so at the moment, too light at the rear axle.. Have to adjust that :)
