Hi Guys I'm new on here, and I'm after a bit of advise if possible.
I'm going to enter the Thunderbolt 2 in the UK nationals. Up to now I've been running an MCD. I'm changing over due to extremely high price for parts of MCD. Basically what I'm asking is if there is anything you guys think need upgrading on the car? I know the pipe is going to be a little difficult as the BRCA rules are quite tight. Also it is going to have to be the plastic version of the car - as it's the only one we get in the UK.
Thanks in advance
Gordy

Bump Gordy, welcome to the site, you have some interesting questions, unfortunately I can't help answer any of them. Maybe one of the guys that races the TBII can help you out.

I'd upgrade the front drive shafts to CVD's.

Also perhaps the rear upright hubs to aluminum

and then the front c hubs to aluminum

Any other suggestions guys?

Hi Gordy and :welcome:
First don't diss the RTR kit they are very strong and forgiving! If you are stuck with the RTR version then these would be my upgrades.
New version front c-hub bolt set
Alloy diff cases F/C/R
New sealed bearings throughout car
Alloy gear carrier and engine mounts
7075 front & rear shock towers, steering drag link, front top brace, alloy servo saver and change the bolt sizes for the drag and steering servo connectors.
As for a pipe check my thread on my lastest Samba side pipe which should be legal for your rules.
Anything else you need help with let me know!

Thanks for the welcome - and thanks for all the help guys.
I'd love the TB2 pro, but there is a plus side to the RTR if the fact that it is light. I have seen your exhaust, I take it it goes on the outside of the shell? Unfortunately our BRCA rules state that all exhausts must be either covered by the shell, or covered with some sort of mesh. Think I might have to have a custom expansion chamber made which shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Actually does sit under the std shell not very well and I used some aluminum tape on the inside of the shell to stop heat from burning body, but still covered until I get my MCD body ready!

I see - nice one. I'm sure I read somewhere Nutech have got a wide shell coming out, which should make it easier to fit the exhaust under the shell. From your list of up grades, it sounds like I might be better off with a TB2 pro. I think there is already a couple in the UK being used by people, but not sure how to get hold of one yet, I don't think they are in full production are they? Or the othe alternative is to get the rtr and go from there. Also is the anti rollbar kit available yet, as most UK tracks are very high bite? I think they'll be a must. The other thing I love about this car is the roll centres are easy to adjust, as they are not that easy on other large scales out there.

Yes Nutech have a wide body option coming out soon!
My list is only suggestions! out of the 3 RTR TB2 cars that race at our local track, I have only sold one front std shock tower that has broken, but the guy drives pritty hard and have also changed to either alloy diff cases or the upgraded plastic cases with steel end insert.
I am still testing the sway bars and they need a bit of work on them still.

If I wanted a Thunderbolt 2 pro, does anyone know where I can buy one from, that will ship to the UK. And what price?
Cheers
