The steering anchorman plate and inner turnbuckles and fixed with 3mm screws, after 5 laps of the track all 4 bolts come loose and Sunday the anchorman shoulder bolts fell out!

Here's my up grade to 4mm screws

Here's the 3mm screws

Here are the new anchorman 4mm countersunk screws with cup washers and pieces of nylon tube cut to 5mm thick

All fixed with 4mm nylock nuts

I've ordered two ball joints with 4mm holes for the inner turnbuckles.

would a pair of flanged bearings improve it do you think

Looks like a nice clean mod you've made, where did you get the nylon tubing from?

I have a mini lathe and turned them from 10mm nylon bar.

Don't think bearings are needed mate but have a go.

What did you drill them out with? the ball joints are case hardened!

I just tried with a carbide tip bit and it only made a shinny mark round the top of the hole!

I am going to compare to my fg stuff and see if I can't just swap some things.

I've ordered these for the inner turnbuckle joints, MCD rod ends.

Just need to drill out the steering plate 4mm.

Nice mod, thanks for sharing ;-) luckily I read this thread before running the FTX and loctited the bolts in question. They are still tight.

It looks to me that the thread on the standard bolts needs to be a few mm longer as they don't bite propely on the nyloc nut.

Also I had to remove a small amount of the threaded servo saver pillar as it was fouling the top plate. Meaning if I tightened the top screws fully the steering was stiff. The steering is smooth and free now.

Here's the inner turnbuckle ball joint mod:

I'm using MCD balls
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y254/cabbie1/FTX/Photo095.jpg?t=1265831645

They are exaclly the same size as the FTX/Nutech balls but have a 4mm centre hole, you'll need 4mm allen cap head screws 35mm long and two 4mm nylock nuts.

Just need to drill out the steering plate 4.5mm.

Here's the complete steering modified

I thought it might be worth mentioning but I ordered a new Ackerman Rod for steering on my Punisher as I bent the old in a big mash..

Anyway.. I finally received the new part to find it's been re-designed :D

The Collars are now press fitted and solid which the original ones were not.

I've got it fitted now and it's FAR better.

Got the CVD's in too. What a difference!

A also added a couple of washers to the steering bar to raise it up to get full lock.

I'll post pix if people want. :)

These are the mods I've sorted so far for steering.

(You'll also not the aftermarket bumper, what a saver that is!!)

You can see the new Ackerman Rod has the collar press fitter (I know you cant see very well but it is, I'd already fitted it before thinking about posting pix)

The 2 washers under the arm has sorted out the clearance over the drive shaft at the front.

As a result you can see just how much lock I can now get!!

The CVD's have also helped with the steering lock too as the dogbones cant drop out now

im not sure about the grease on the uj drive shafts you will find it will turn sand and grit into grinding paste

Very true.

These pictures were as I'd fitted them. I've cleaned a lot of that excess away now, but a little lube never hurt :)
