View Full Version : TB2 Fuel Leak

I had a problem with fuel leaking pulled it apart and found this!

Now I have done well over 50 tanks in my TB2 pro! I think the reason for this has been the flex in the center of the car just in front of the center diff the 2 rear tank mounting lugs had broken off causing the rear of the tank to move up into the drive cup and shaft.
Now that I have made a steel rollcage it has eliminated all the flex from the chassis.

That's krappy! Looks like the tank mount tabs broke and the tank was slapping around. It probaly would have fallen out if the drive shaft wasn`t run through the middle. LOL

At least you got it before it caught fire. Nice looking cage also.

my rear tabs broke off as well after I came off the jump wrong...my cage absorbed most of the impact but still bent enough to allow the chassis to flex and snap the rear tabs...i tried melting the tabs back on...one held one didn't so new tank for me too before mine ends up like that as well
Tank is bad material =(
Also one mounting tab broken.

My Punisher came with rubber washers between the tank and chassis, I used thicker grommets instead to provide some cushioning for the tank
No need to fully tighten the screws, with nylock nuts the tank isn't going anywhere, leave about 1mm of compressed grommit, this provides shock absorbtion for the tanks tabs and prevents the fuel from foaming (probably wouldn't anyway).

I found the tank material real good myself...after my rock strike the tank had a split in it...melted it back together with a soldering iron...many plastics wont seal up but go brittle with heat
i run thick tap washers under the tabs...in fairness the tabs would be ok if it weren't for my big roof impact..the cause was not weak tank material but weak driving:excited:

50 tanks not bad, it might be a good idea to strap the tank down.i was thinking along the lines of the fg style strap they use, it might be better using 2 straps one across over the front where the servo is and the other near the batt box.
Then like Isle of Wight Basher said the rubber washes
This would preventing the upwards movement of the tank for sure

I would prefer the tank nuts to be cast into the tank like a few others I know of will tank a pic and post tomorrow.

That would be agreat idea. Those nuts are a BUGGER to get to.

This tank is from a XRC 1/5 buggy, FG use the same system on there on road fast fill tanks, looks to me the hole is molded in then a serrated brass threaded insert is pressed in later.

You can buy those brass inserts here. I have used them many times with great success.
If the bolts were threaded into the plastic that would be a good start.

my tank did the same thing so i upgraded to a rampage tank
