Well my mate said he had some time to do some machining at his work last night so made the most of the time:D
First the front end I don't like the way the front arms are on a angle so machined the front bulkhead to match the rear in height so now the arms are parallel to the chassis.
STD front bulkhead

Modified bulkheads

Next the STD lower arm ball joint was very sloppy so in goes some spherical bearings!
http://i976.photobucket.com/albums/ae247/NutechGT5R-NZ/Nutech%20GT5-R%20On%20Road/GT5Rlowerarmswithsphericalbearing.jpg
Next I had already done this mod at home in the lathe, shorten the front shock bodies by 10mm (red springs in pic) this lower's the front end of the car and with using FG progressive springs handles alot better.

I will get onto more mods once time allows!

I like the shock mod but the front kick up I am leaving. I hadn't gotten past the springs being too long. back seems ok, but the front is brutal. I was tempted to just order some new shocks. I'd be using the dremmel to cut mine and taping off my line. 10mm is what it needs?
and I agree on the lower arm too. got a part number for those puppies? awesome work... I am going to copy a couple of these

Just use hacksaw to cut then clean up with file and dremmel but lathe is better to get clean straight end.
They are FG P/No 4466

Have managed to do a bit more work to the GT5R as I need to get it finished soon b4 our weather starts to pack it in for winter!
So the front servo tray and front brace is all finished just need to drill holes for servo's and mount. The shock tower is off a HARM which lines up with the shocks better.

So whats left over from the nutech parts LOL ,looking good Bryan looking good, don't forget to seal the carbon, where you have bean drilling & cutting or it will start splitting at those points and that would be a shame for all the hard work.
Those ;lower arms did you machine them as well oh and what cnc programming are you using ?...

Thanx Lee yes I will seal before final fitting! There is still 90% Nutech in this car I have just made it alot better:yahoo:
The lower arms are std GT5R items I have just milled out to fit spherical bearings in them.

Ah i sea i thought they were hormann lower arms they do look a bit similar ,any way so you milled the lower arms out for the fg spherical bearing, very nice indeed.
would you by any chance have a before and after picture for all to see ?...

Hi Barry, Yes I milled them because I wanted to leave a ridge on the bottom side of the hole to help retain the spherical bearing in place, I could have just drilled them out to 13mm but then the chances of the bearing slipping out under load is increased!

Sorry I didn't get a before and after shot! but here's a link to the std arm which normally has just a steel ball in it same as in std FG plastic rod ends!
http://www.nutechracing.com/english/ProductShow.asp?ID=500
Because the lower arm is machined to allow this type of ball end there is alot of movement approx 5mm up & down which is unacceptable in a on road car!
And if you were thinking of using these arms in a TB2 they won't work:damn:

hmm, I don't have any way to mill stuff other than a drill and dremmel. I might just cut the end off, drill and tap the arm and use a nutech aluminum end, or one of the integy ones I have

Barry drilling them out was going to be my first choice as I don't have a mill but mate said he would do for me so couldn't turn that down!
But I would drill them out rather than cut end off and fit a steel rose joint as there is not that much meat at the end of the arm.
Drill hole out to 13mm, then when you have the the spherical bearing in place drill & tap 2.5mm hole and then use 2 x button head allen head screw to secure the spherical bearing in place. see pic hole position marked as red +

Barry thinking about it if you drill in a drill press you can just stop just about to bottom then that would give you a shoulder!!!

Back to my mods and rebuild!
I have drilled and tapped holes in the top and lower arms to lock onto the shafts with grub screws.

Thanks Bryan, I see what you are saying. I'll have to order some of those bearings up then. I have access to a drill press. I saw busyboy tools has a cool manual mini mill for under $700. friend sent me a link and there's one down in new west, not far from here... hmm.
looks like yours is smooth now
