UK National championship Rd 2;

The CML supported team put in an awesome job over the weekend to give the FTX Punisher its first national championship win.
Team FTX Punisher Driver Steve Haynes Qualified 2nd overall with CML supported Darren Johnson qualifying in 5th and myself also supported by CML qualifying in 4th.

It was a clean start for the main final with Steve Haynes quickly moving into first followed by Daren Johnson and I after pole man Stevo Backland driving an MCD had a problem and had to return to the pits where after a quick fix he soon returned to the action and set about catching the FTX Punisher’s leading trio.
Darren made a slight mistake and left me a gap to pass moving me into second and I pushed Steve Haynes for a while trying to get pass but then I made a mistake and clipped the track hose and this dropped me back to fourth. I quickly got back on the pace and moved into third and set about chasing down 2nd place held by my team mate Darren Johnson.
In the mean time Steve Haynes had pulled a healthy gap on the chasing pack as Stevo Backland was chasing hard to close the gap on Darren and myself in 2nd and third. Darren and I changed places a couple of times over the race with the FTX Punisher trio leading all the way until Darren ran out of fuel moving Stevo Backland and his MCD into 3rd and then with less than 2 minutes I was struck with the same fate as my team mate Darren as I ran out of fuel this moved Stevo Backland up to second but I had done enough to finish 3rd overall. I passed the info onto Steve Haynes before leaving the rostrum giving him the chance to drive conservatively for the remainder of the final allowing him to take his first large scale victory and give the FTX Punisher its first national win here in the UK. (Steve Haynes also ran out of fuel on his run down lap.)

Not a bad result considering we where all running standard engines and no tuned pipes, however as a team we are all new to large scale racing and have to learn a bit more about engine tuning as this was our down fall and why we ran out of fuel.

Overall another good result for the FTX Punisher / thunderbolt II with 3 in the top five and 2 on the podium with that all important top step for Steve Haynes. (Well done champ.) :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Pics coming soon...

Fantastic!! Great reporting. Thanks for the update, and keep up the good racing. Take a cameraman to the next round.

Why the fuel problems? :confused: How long are the finals? They must be pretty long.

Finals are 30 minutes long it’s just that we are new to large scale racing and we are still getting to grips with engine tuning. Also all our engines are standard with no tuned pipes to help with fuel economy, but I am sure we will all be Ok for the next round.

Fingers crossed LOL

That is a great write up on the event too, I could actually picture the scenario unfolding. man talk about a heart break for both of you running out of fuel. Still an awesome finish

Hi Chris,

We are using the optional engine mounts (FTX 7903) and ackerman plate (FTX7934 (http://www.shopatron.com/products/productdetail/part_number=FTX7934/745.0.4.3)) we also ran with the HPI adapters (FTX7949) and Pro-Line wheels (PL2706-03) and tyres (PL1150-00 (http://www.cmldistribution.co.uk/cml_product.php?range=RACING&productId=0000004452)).
We are at present using the Multiplex digi rhino servos on both steering and throttle/brake while we are waiting for new Savox servo’s apart from that our buggy’s are standard RTR kits.
