decided it was time to sort out the front end once and for all. i got the alloy c-hubs but the inserts for the knuckle screws are too small ...both the old ones and the newer type...the c hub hole is 8.10mm while the insert is 7.86mm...waay too sloppy and i don't like sloppy holes:no::) the inserts need to come 8.2 from the factory so the hub needs a bit of heat to get them in and hold tight
i went to a machine shop to get 4 8.2mm inserts made...$80 they told me:surprise: ah no thank you... fg spherical bearings are $28each ...$112 shipped for 4 eeek. i want bearings so whilst gawking at all the parts on gas jockeys wall i found some real affordable ones

$20ish for 4 :punk:..just need an end mill in a drill press now to machine the bottom holes to 13mm...the top i'll keep as is with the mcdonalds straw mod i came up with until I can get some bigger inserts made somewhere or some brass tube to fit over the insert...
using straw top and bottom at the moment ran it for a couple of tanks and seems to hold up ok...does squish a bit but reckon would last 4-5 tanks...using the nicholas screw mod which i think is the best screw set up IMO

been using an fg link from the servo to saver that Mike sent me but the rod ends started getting worn already so i copied gas jockey's new set up...nutech 4mm rod ends with a rod from somewhere off a savage...a rampage modifies servo saver part as i snapped 3 nutech ones in 2 tanks..done 6 in total so time for something a bit tougher...after near 4 gallons the steering turnbuckle ends are ovalling too so time to upgrade to the alloy ones from nutech.

camera died before i could take some vid of how tight and smooth it is now....I'll get some later...i'm stoked, a few bucks has made a huge difference...

Nice! Very well done. Now I know what to do to fix my sloppy steering.

couple more pics of the steering set up...i got a bit more lock by notching the bellcranks slightly...now the steering arm hits the c-hub and acts as a stop...even cranked right over the cvd's are super smooth

I'm trying something different, I couldn't find anything to use as a sleeve over the bushing like Moo did so I thought maybe a set screw to hold it over tight to one side might work. This won't work for the plastic c-hubs and may not work for the alloy either but had to try something to take the excessive slop out. I'll install them and have a go this weekend to see how they last. I still might do one more set screw at 90 degrees for each bushing, it might lock it in better.

Let us know how that works.

interesting..that may work.
the straw i use is good for only a few tanks so i need something more permanent....... if nutech made the bushings 8.2mm instead of 7.9mm (how hard is that) it'd be a press fit and all would be peachy. i just did some work for a guy who has a machine shop in his shed so going to see if he can make 4 bushings up cheaper than the $80 the last place wanted...if anyone knows anyone with a capston lathe it'd be worth getting a couple of hundred bushes machined up (maybe out of bronze to prevent galling)..with a shouldered bolt in the top and the nicholas bolt mod in the bottom the steering screws would be fixed forever and slop free
