I also had to shim my aluminum engine mount. It turned out that the mount on the pullstart side is about a washers thickness too thin. It's been perfect ever since.

Has anyone noticed the difference in mesh (main steel gears )between the alloy mounts and the plastic? My engine is mounted on plastic and the mesh looks 'right' where as the alloy mounts make the mesh a bit further apart, almost like a tooth is missing on the spur or pinion. They seem to perform well enough so I'm assuming not a problem but it looks a little odd

That is what gave me the idea that mine needed shiming. Once i did the washer shim it all ligned up like it belonged there.

Right, that would make sense. How have they managed to drop a clanger there?

IIRC didn't another rc company have a similar issue in the past?

Thanks for solving that little conundrum for me

I'll vet around to mine, had to rob it for a wheel square for another project... the mfg used red loktite and I stripped out 5 setscrews doing a tear down. had to cut a wheel square off... thank god I have Vancouver Hobbies to buy from hehe... add it to my box... (I think Scott has a permamnent box for me and just tosses stuff in until I can afford it... problem is the boxes keep getting bigger all the time )
